Mutharika wa Chama cha Democratic Progressive Party amepata asilimia 36.4 ya kura, imetangaza tume ya uchaguzi nchini humo.
Rais anayeondoka madarakani Joyce Banda amedai uchaguzi huo ulivurugwa.
Tume ya uchaguzi ya Malawi (MEC) iliomba siku 30 za ziada ili kura zihesabiwe upya kabla ya kutangaza matokeo.
Hata hivyo, Mahakama Kuu ilitupilia mbali ombi hilo na kutoa amri ya matokeo kutangaza siku ya Ijumaa.
